Tale of a Golden Legacy
Hello, my fellow readers. It's Trevor with our first blog post of the year. We want to pay a special tribute to ParkerPup, a therapy dog who went to The Rainbow Bridge this past Saturday. We first want to send our heartfelt condolences to the McFarling family. To Dan, ParkerPup's human dad and Jenn, who Parker, always referred to as his girl. We realize that Parker did not speak, but neither do I, but still manage to tell pretty good tales. BOL
Reser and Gill the 2 golden brothers left behind are probably wondering where did he go? Reser is a golden hero and will continue to do his part in the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study through the Morris Animal Foundation. A study of 3,000 golden retrievers who enrolled to hopefully find out why 60% of this breed ends up getting canine cancer. This is a fact that Brenda and I were not aware of.
We've learned so much about golden retrievers in general and that is all thanks to ParkerPup's page on Facebook, that Brenda discovered in 2013. She was so excited to see a page with a dog who was an actor, cancer awareness advocate, and his greatest legacy, being a therapy dog.
ParkerPup was more than just a dog to so many. As was witnessed this week, the outpouring of love by so many. We belong to a special group, called ParkerPup's Posse and there are over 1,000 members. You don't have to have a dog to join. We have a lot of fun and it's informative too.
Parker's golden legacy entails so much. We want to bring out some of the things that made him so special.
When Brenda first started following his Facebook page, there was talk of this cancer vest that Parker would wear with names of our loved ones and even pets who were fighting cancer or had sadly passed. I find it ironic, that Parker ended up passing from the very thing that he advocated for. When Brenda mentioned that she lost her beloved sister Beverly to colon cancer, they offered to put her name on his vest.
Something pretty cool about that. This week a video was shared, where Parker was on one of his special advocacy walks. There was a photo of him with a list of names that were under his mouth. We need to get into detail here, so you can picture it. Anyway, the name right under his mouth, was Brenda's sister. She burst into tears. She didn't remember seeing this before, as she had watched that video many times. I guess Parker wanted to send a special surprise from The Rainbow Bridge.
Brenda did end up composing a poem titled: Pawsome ParkerPup. It was a tribute to his special cancer vest, that displays all those names. How could she not do something, after that gesture of kindness was demonstrated.
Brenda has since requested many names to be added to the vest. She has lost count. She even had another sister Iris, added last year, as she was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. Again, as soon as they heard the news, no questions asked, she was added. This meant so much.
Brenda thinks the world of your family. She really appreciates how you include her, even though she does not own a pet. She was heartbroken to hear the news of Parker's passing.
There have been a lot of cool events that we got involved with. The virtual birthday parties were the best. There were games and even prizes. Brenda treasures her postcard from Parker that she won.
The campaigns with the different shirts, that could be purchased. Probably Brenda's favorite were the ones with Spread Hope. That after all was the essence of what ParkerPup was all about.
Gill now has that opportunity to fill those paws and spread some HOPE of his own.
We just wanted to share what was on our hearts. We love and appreciate you! Thanks for allowing us to be a part of the posse.
We try to remember Parker's motto. Please excuse me, if I don't get it quite right. I believe it goes something like this. "No matter where you are or what you're doing, don't forget to SPREAD HOPE!
This is Trevor barking off. We will try our best to remember Parker's golden legacy by continuing to SPREAD HOPE every day. We will never forget him.

Parker was much loved and will be terribly missed. Bye Parker.
ReplyDeleteYes he will, so much!
DeleteI love Parker and his family. Looked forward to his posts every day. I also have his calendars and two shirts and a book his girl wrote about him. I have an 8 year old Golden, Lucy who I raised from a pup. Actually, Parker was my inspiration to get a Golden and she, like Jenn says, is my heart doggy. We, all his virtual friends miss him desperately and thank his family for sharing in their grief. The loss of a pet is hard enough, but to do it among all his followers has to be especially tough. Jenn has done this in dignity and to her we say thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Cyn, I agree with every word you shared. I wrote this for all of us, as my way of saying thanks for sharing ParkerPup with us, along with Reser and Gill. Thank, for stopping by and feel free to browse on my main page. There are links to other projects, I have been involved with.
DeleteThis is quite a lovely entry Brenda.
