Tale of Feeling Lost...

Hello it's Trevor here, with our July tale. Brenda has had another summer full of doctor's visits and tests. We try to be real with our posts and this one, will be no different.

Brenda has been struggling. This week she almost had a vertigo attack during the night. It seemed when she would start to lie down, the room almost started to spin. As you know vertigo is that false sense, that the room is spinning, when actually it isn't. Tell that to the inside of your head. Brenda had what she needed on hand, to stop things from getting worse. Unfortunately after something like this happens, you're exhausted and all you want to do is rest. Brenda decided it was in her best interest to stay home from work.

It's been frustrating, because she missed 2 days last week, getting ready for her 4th colonoscopy. She has a family history, so there was no choice in the matter. They found 3 polys and some irritation, called mild proctitis, which is a pain in the butt. Brenda still does not know the origin of the polys or if the mild irritation, which was also biopsied, is something to be concerned about.

As you know in the past, she was not actually told that she had RA or a brain tumor. The communication or lack thereof, was confusing to Brenda. In the case of her RA, her rheumy put it  this way; "I'm afraid this is going to take a little longer than we hoped." Try 28 years!! She was handed multiple pamphlets and Brenda had her answer. She had RA.

In the case of the brain tumor, it would take months before that came to light. All the terms again were confusing, lesion, mass, meningioma. No one ever used the word brain tumor. It was only when Brenda asked to have one of her work restrictions extended, that she had her answer. It said on the piece of paper; "Patient had a brain tumor." Finally!! She was already dealing with frontal lobe syndrome, another surprise that was never discussed with her.

What is it about not communicating with patients, when they are dealing with life changing issues? That is one of the biggest reasons that Brenda became an advocate, to help with getting those lines of communication wide open. Be honest with your patients, tell them straight up, what is going on.

Brenda is beyond frustrated, sitting here, waiting for results from last week. It may not be anything serious, but until you know, you don't know!!

Brenda feels so disconnected right now. She hasn't shared much on social media, because quite frankly, there isn't much to share.

Every day she fights and every day, continues to be a battle. Brenda will never give up! She wants a little peace and communication, would also be nice too.

This is ~T Man Barking Off~
