A Tale of Nerves...

Hi, it's Trevor with our June tale. As you know, we are living through a pandemic, which has been going on for months. It seems like dog years to me. BOL

Brenda has been logging the numbers in her journal, regarding the cases of COVID-19 in her state of North Dakota. This has always been a fascination of Brenda's, keeping track of statistics. Dates are a thing with Brenda. I'm not talking about romance here. BOL How could you now with social distancing? When are we going to be able to hug again? I miss my fellow golden friends. All I have are memories of our times together. That sounds like a romantic novel, doesn't it? BOL I kind of got off course here. Sorry. BOL

Brenda comes from a smaller state, so what we are about to share, does not reflect what is going on nationwide. As of today we have 3,251 reported cases of COVID-19. The current active cases being 293. Those who have recovered is 2,882. Currently hospitalized is 28. Sadly, there have been 76 deaths. Let me break it down for you. In long-term care, there have been 56 out of those 76. Our governor did the right thing with handling long-term care. It was terrible for families who were unable to visit their loved ones and especially for those who didn't understand, why they could not be visited. You see, this is our most vulnerable population. North Dakota has the most people per capita living in long-term care. Part of the reason is, that they have a long life span. They had to be protected.

Brenda also falls into a category of living with several underlying health conditions. Brenda is 60 years old and there have been 7 deaths in that age category. That hits home for Brenda. It also gets on her nerves, here we go.

When you don't want to wear a mask out in public, you are really telling those that live with an underlying health condition, that you don't really care about them. It's too hot and too uncomfortable. How would you like to be on a ventilator? If Brenda would end up with COVID-19, that is a real possibility.

Brenda has been only going to work and home. She ventured out to her pharmacy for the first time in months yesterday. She wore a mask and her pharmacist was wearing one also. She felt safe and was careful not to stand too close to the others.

Brenda has been accused of mask shaming on social media. She only presents the common sense aspect of wearing one. You are not just doing this for you. It could be for someone you don't even know, who could have a family member at home with an underlying health condition or someone in long-term care. It spreads there, it can be deadly.

Most of the deaths in North Dakota regarding COVID-19 were those who were also living with underlying health conditions, so you see the reasoning behind wearing a mask, while out in public. Brenda has one in her purse at all times.

Brenda got several others, so she could rotate. She has one coming with golden retrievers. That will be my favorite, I'm sure. BOL

Brenda has been having food delivered and her groceries. She hasn't seen any of her family, only talks to them on the phone. She couldn't even attend her sister's memorial service. It would not have been wise. The county with the most cases and deaths. I don't think so.

It's getting wearing, but what else can she do? She falls into that category of being part of a vulnerable population, because of her RA.

Please wear a mask, when you're out in public. Brenda would like to be able to attend gatherings once again, someday. If we are truly in this together, which that saying gets on Brenda's nerves. If you don't want to do it for YOU, do it for someone else you may not even know. Be a hero!
